Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Police in Jagatballavpur conducted a night raid on Friday targeting an illegal country liquor operation running in the canal of the Hooghly River. Officers reached the site using a boat and arrested two individuals — Shubh Hait and Kalyan Khan — who were caught in the act. Over 100 litres of illicit liquor were recovered from their possession, as confirmed by police sources.
The raid took place in the Rajapur area. Police stated that several other individuals involved in the illegal activity managed to escape during the operation. A search operation is currently underway to locate the absconding accused. Law enforcement teams are conducting house-to-house searches in nearby villages to trace those who fled.
To deter similar activities, police paraded the two arrested men through the village, tied with ropes. Officials said the action was aimed at curbing the spread of such illegal liquor networks operating in remote riverine areas. Surveillance in similar zones has been increased.
